It's truly remarkable how something can start
out as a hobby and then from your focused passion turn into a far reaching, life changing obsession that's
really fun!
That's what happened to me on a personal
quest that started twenty-five years ago. Sure I was the one like many of you now that had a subtle
interest of really exploring my own family roots to try to figure out and define my German
heritage side from my own Hingst surname that exemplifies true German origin.
As I reflect back to when this journey first started, it was more of a vision
experience that manifested into something so grand it was actually
difficult to put into words... but I eventually did it. It actually turns out that the creation of this website
GermanNationUSA is just the start of many marvelous things to come regarding the complete
untapped German-American experience in the USA!
Many of my closest friends and associates that are privy to my vision are blown away regarding what's on the horizon. They are also in agreement that the flagship website of GermanNationUSA is just the beginning or the proverbial tip of an enormous ICEBERG vision that I have imagineered. Hmmmm, I wonder if that word iceberg has a sort of German-related connotation or origin to it?
Did I mention that the Germans who settled in America have become the single
largest National Group to populate the United States? Today those Americans of German descent total over 61 million people, by far outnumbering those of any other ethnic background in America.
That 61 million number is really significant and stands out like a huge flag and actually means two different things to me.
First and foremost there is a vast and tremendously hungry - target specific German-American audience out there for GermanNationUSA to market to and socialize with... and secondly there's alot of heritage and history out there to research and write about in regards to showcasing German related tourism within the United States that specifically includes all the numerous German related restaurants, businesses, clubs, events and festivals scattered about from coast to coast.
I must admit that when this quest first began I could never really quite get my imagineered ideas across to other creative professionals like graphic artist, website designers, etc. for the purpose of having them help me design it as I saw it. Of course twenty-five years ago in the beginning (before the internet) that option was non-existent. I often thought back then that maybe I was just in the wrong part of the country or simply not connecting with the right people or perhaps I was somewhat ahead of my own time.
Is that the ultimate definition of a visionary?
In recent years I was still experiencing numerous set-backs from trying to convey my passion and thoughts with professionals to assist me in creating something as elementary as this initial GermanNationUSA website.. I became clearly frustrated and simply just resigned to the fact that this very first and very important building block needed my personal touch to it directly. It had to start from my own inspiration to mold the clay to create the initial sculpture.
It indeed required my own voice, my personal signature.
The look and feel of GermanNationUSA had to be original but also very much comprehensive and interactive to not only showcase my own personal passion, but to outreach to thousands of others like me who actually will get to share in the opportunity to display their German-American heritage passion as well.
I determined to accomplish this first step, to establish the conceptual template that more skilled professionals could work with and enhance upon down the road, I had to build the inaugural GermanNationUSA website myself from scratch. You know, take the bull by the horns kind of deal.
The only problem at this point was I had zero website building skills and only a vague idea of how I was going to go about to do it. So I set out on a path of research and self study. My resolve was to simply find a way and means to accomplish this task without breaking the bank... and I did it.
I discovered that I could do it myself with the help of a few website building platforms like XSitePro2 and another from Site Build It (SBI) that were created for people just like me. The education alone both provided was priceless!
So I did it myself and now here we are. I'm a strong believer these days that sheer determination and the drive to find a way to get things done will always pave the way to you dreams... if you stay with it long enough.

The German/Bavarian fun theme stands alone by itself as being recognized by several high profile advertisers as historically being magnetic in attracting the masses to a good time feeling or environment for branding their product.
