Discover Amerika... visit Germany stateside!
Coming soon to a town near
you...
The diversity of all things German within the
USA is simply incredible with all the numerous
and amazingly vast selection of German
themed restaurants, shops, bakeries, cafes, deli's, candy
stores, breweries and German themed hotels and inns located in almost every state across
America.
There are numerous communities across the USA that are
still today rooted deep in German culture, heritage and traditions brought to America from the
early German immigrants during the great exodus migration of the 1800's.
This is part of the answer as to why the popularity,
appeal and attraction of the German experience exist today. It’s a known truth that German or
Bavarian ethnic themed festivals and attractions all across the USA are very popular with
respective annual event attendance figures at all time highs!
Why is that?
The popularity of these events like "Oktoberfest" and other
noted fairs, festivals, events and attractions are not just in the larger German ethnic populated
cities like Chicago, New York, Cincinnati, Milwaukee or Dallas either. These types of German ethnic
"experiences" are celebrated in smaller communities all across the country too
including!
Leading the way are the
smaller tourist communities that have actually been settled originally by German immigrants
in the 1800's and other communities that had been modified, transformed and converted into
Bavarian hamlets originally to capture a piece of the lucrative tourism market identified
during the 1960's and 1970's.
A few of the best known are:
It's a combination of the timeless traditions regarding German heritage,
the numerous fun-time feeling festival celebrations, the hearty foods, the craftsman-styled
merchandise and the (circus-like) sounds of a rousing Oompah-pah brass horn band that all gets the
adrenalin flowing of both
the old and young at heart.
Could it be a flashback to our own childhood fantasy experiences regarding
mystical storybook themes of German/Bavarian Castles, Characters and of course
the Costumes?
If you really think about it… it's worked very well for Walt Disney over the
years now hasn't it?
It’s also an incredible perceived appeal that the German/Bavarian experience
has on people of all races from various financial and religious backgrounds. It seems most people
really enjoy themselves and have a good time within this environment every time!
From a German-American standpoint, it seems to be somewhat of an
emotional destiny quest for thousands of German-Americans that are both curious and anxious to get
back in touch with their Germanic roots to seek out and experience anything German... it's truly a
genuine German heritage attraction phenomenon.
~ Prost! (cheers)
